Why CISOs should care about SD-WAN

Why CISOs should care about SD-WAN

We’ve spoken a lot about the benefits of transitioning an enterprise from MPLS to SD-WAN and the various options business owners have at their disposal when deciding between a full-blown SD-WAN or hybrid SD-WAN approach. But there is one crucial element of this migration that – surprisingly – doesn’t always get the attention it deserves: information security.

Sure, there are security aspects that you naturally take into consideration when migrating a network, but all too often I have seen digital transformation plans that don’t include the enterprise’s Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) from the get-go: something that can become a real problem once your network transition is complete. Your CISO could be left playing security catch-up with a network that is completely different to your old one, which can leave you vulnerable to many risks.

I believe these are the types of conversations SD-WAN really helps unlock internally. SD-WAN migration isn’t limited to the nuts and bolts of network evolution; it touches on all parts of a business and it’s important to make sure all key players are involved from the get-go.

Let’s delve a little deeper into how the role of the modern CISO is evolving and why they should care about how SD-WAN can, in fact, help make their business more secure.
